Purdue Alumni Calumet (PAC) Outstanding Student Award

The spring 2009 recipient of the PAC Outstanding Student Award is Tyamo Okosun. Tyamo will graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. As the award recipient, Tyamo will receive a plaque, $500 monetary award and he will represent his graduating class by offering the traditional student response at Commencement.

Tyamo has served as a Supplemental Instruction Leader for General Thermodynamics II (Fall 2008) and Heat Transfer classes (Spring 2009). He has been one of the key members of the Purdue Calumet NASA 2008 Moonbuggy Team, conducting and supervising the design and analysis of the suspension system for PUC’s new engineering student-designed Moonbuggy, including axles, wheels, and shocks using ProE and FEA software programs.

Since spring 2007, Tyamo has conducted four research projects and received several research awards. His presentations include:
· “The Effect of the Angle of Attack on an Airfoil’s Lift and Drag”, Student Research Day, Purdue University Calumet (March 2007);
· “Lift and Drag: Continuing Challenges in Aerodynamics” at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Durban, South Africa (August 2007);
· “Lift and Drag: Continuing Challenges in Aerodynamics” at the Third Annual LSAMP/AGEP Conference, Bloomington, IN (November 2007); and
· “Determining the Optimum Velocity of an Airbus A310 by Utilizing CFD” Student Research Day, Purdue University Calumet (March 2008).

Tyamo has received numerous honors and awards including – Outstanding Student Award, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009; Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges, 2008; Vice Chancellor’s Academic Award, 2006-2007; 2007-2008; and the Best and Brightest Scholarship. He is also an honors student.

Tyamo has been accepted into the Ph.D.in Mechanical Engineering program at Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, where he plans to advance research in the aerospace industry.
